It's been a slow news month for the Bowdoin ski team - good solid training all around, from what I'm hearing, but not much excitement to report. That's probably a good thing at this time of year. The calm won't last long, though - summer's ending. Right now, the first-years are out on Pre-O trips, with Nat and Grace among the leaders. Next week, the upperclass students will be back on campus, and things will get busy after that. It's going to be fun - stay tuned.
I'd love to post a cool training photo, but I don't have anything current, so I'll take this opportunity to show off the cutest baby ever instead:

Nat's Blog - Mt. Washington Trip
So it turns out that Nat has a new blog with Fasterskier. I knew that this was in the works, but I wasn't clever enough to find it until recently. Here's the link. He has a new post up about a team training weekend that included a hike up Mt. Washington, as well as some other training and bike racing posts (I tolerate but don't endorse frequent bike racing for nordic skiers - I'm happy to say that Nat has limited himself to just a handful of bike races this summer). Anyway, the blog's a good read, full of Nat's trademark wit and mercifully free of the word "like." Check it out.

Assistant Coach: Oliver Burruss
I'm pleased to announce that we've hired Oliver Burruss as our new assistant coach. Ollie was Harvard's top male skier for the past few years before graduating last spring with a BA in History. He served as Harvard captain for the past two years, earned Academic All-American honors in 2007 and 2008, and was named Harvard Skier of the Year for the 2007-2008 season. He also worked as an assistant coach and wax tech for the Massachusetts team at the Eastern High School Championships in 2007 and 2008.
I'm thrilled to have Ollie joining us - he's a true student of the sport and he's excited to be starting his professional coaching career with Bowdoin. He'll be arriving on campus in late September - I'm looking forward to working with him!
